What kind of program is this?
This program was created for children ages 3 years through 2nd grade. It was developed by Sunday Mom and has been used and revised for 5 years. It originated out of a desire to encourage the families of our congregation to form a partnership with children in worship.
Unlike other programs, this program exists in cooperation with the adult service, not as a substitute for the adult worship program. It has been a resounding success for us. It is our hope that by making it available online, we can help other churches and communities in growing the faith of children.
If Sunday morning is the time that is important to us as a worshipping community, then adults and children need to be together at this time. Worship is one of the basic ways in which people are formed in their faith and learn what it is to be a Christian. Moreover, children learn worship by worshipping with the congregation. They learn that they belong to Christ and are welcome in his church. They participate in the proclamation of God's Word and in the sacraments of Holy Baptism and Holy Communion. They learn God's kindness, grace, love and forgiveness. Children need to worship regularly, from their earliest years.
In our church, the little children attend the first part of our regular worship service. They participate in litany, prayer, hymns, offering, and special events like baptism. The minister gathers all the children at the front of the church and delivers a children’s sermon. The children are then dismissed to participate in their own worship program. If this is not the way your church operates, this program is still a great choice. This program is unique because its extreme flexibility makes it a perfect fit for any church or denomination. What is the structure?
The program is divided into 6 sections: Welcome and Recognition, Let’s Praise, Let’s Learn, Let’s Connect, Let’s Pray, and Before We Go.
IT IS FOR WHAT AGE OF CHILDREN?
This program is designed to accommodate a wide age range, 3-7 years old. Worshiping together is a personal family choice. It is recommended that parents not feel pressure to begin keeping their children for the entire worship service. As all children develop at a different rate, the age guidelines for this program should always be flexible. Parents are the best judge of when their child is ready to start attending Children’s Worship. Likewise, they are the best judge of when they are ready to stop attending Children’s Worship. It is alright to insist that they be potty trained.
Open kids' hearts to God through praise and worship! WHAT ELEMENTS OF WORSHIP ARE INCORPORATED?
This program incorporates regular worship elements of litany, prayer, praise, bible reading, and sermon in a child friendly way. They will have fun while preparing for the day that they are ready to stay in the adult service.
During “Before We Go”, time is scheduled to work on denomination-specific items that may need to be memorized. Your church may have a need for the children to learn the Apostle’s Creed, the Lord’s Prayer, the Doxology, Gloria Patri, the Books of the Bible, the Beatitudes, etc. This is the time to work on parts of your adult service that are repetitive. The children will feel more comfortable staying for worship when they have learned how to participate.
"Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know" Jeremiah 33:3 This program is designed to last 30 minutes, but ample materials and options are provided to extend up to 90 minutes. It was specifically designed for a church where the adult service does not predictably end on time. Each item should last only a few minutes. Small children have a short attention span. The fast pace exposes them to the topics while keeping them engaged. They will learn by repeated exposure, not prolonged exposure.
HOW LONG IS EACH SESSION?
HOW MANY SESSIONS ARE THERE AND FOR WHAT TIME OF YEAR ARE THEY DESIGNED?
This is the Fall/Winter program. It spans the first Sunday in September through the last Sunday in December. There are 17 sessions. The fall program covers Old Testament stories through the birth of Jesus and his baptism. The winter/spring program (coming soon) covers the rest of the New Testament, including Easter and Pentecost. It is the children’s version of reading through the Bible in a year.

WHAT IS THE PRICE?
While my time is free, the expense of maintaining this website is not. I am however offering this program to you for the very low cost of $19. Similar programs sell for much more. This money not only maintains the website, but gives me the resources to develop additional children’s ministry materials. The price is cheap, but the content is not. These riches cannot be measured in dollars. How glorious and wonderful is it to open the hearts of children to the mighty works of God!
